Get Your ESA LetterOhio follows the federal Fair Housing Act (FHA), which states that landlords must accommodate emotional support animals as long as the requested accommodation is within reason, and the tenant can provide a valid ESA letter. This law also requires landlords not to charge any extra fees for living with an assistance animal, nor impose any weight or breed restrictions on the animal. They can, however, refuse to accommodate an animal if it poses a direct threat or causes damage to the property.
At this time, there is no law in Ohio requiring employers to accommodate an emotional support animal. However, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, they must not discriminate against an employee for their disability and are required to accept trained service dogs or psychiatric service dogs.
