I am in California so the law here is a little different with a 30 day period and 2 therapy sessions but it was extremely worth it

"I would give my experience 10000/5 stars! I have already recommended your company to another friend. It was a straightforward no gimmicks service, and the doctor was genuinely concerned.

My new rescue cat Marston really appreciates that he is able to live with me now!

"They are five stars all the way! The site helped set me up with a professional therapist, who is licensed in my state. It was very easy to setup calls or opportunities to communicate with them that worked for both of us.

Most of all they allowed me to keep my cats Mew and Espurr. “

Straightforward and easy to understand terms and conditions. The offer of the subscription did feel a little pushy and scammy. However, having the option to pay in full made me more comfortable. I also appreciated the guarantee that my ESA letter would be accepted by a landlord, or I would get my money back. The total cost of the letter is so much more affordable than pet deposits and rent. So incredibly thankful! The therapist I worked with was kind and professional. Setting my appointment and receiving my letter was timely. I will definitely be recommending this service to friends and family.

They were prompt and the process was straightforward. They called when scheduled, the questionnaire process over the phone only took 10 minutes. I would highly recommend Pettable, a few of them out there are scams, but this one is truly legitimate. I have two ESA animals and the apartment complex did not allow animals yet. I was able to get them both in and without a security deposit. It was a quick and easy interview, my therapist who interviewed me did a great job right to the point, and wrote a terrific letter. I would recommend this to anyone who is having issues getting into a home or apartment and needs their animals with them. Thanks again.

Always wonderful talking to Wendy my counselor. Easy to talk to about all the areas that my dog Ellie helps me with. I do part time caregiving and at the end of my shifts I know I will be welcomed home with love. She greets me at the door ready for hugs and kisses. And I can talk to her and no talking back.

My therapist suggested making my cats emotional support animals due to personal circumstances. I'd heard about it years ago, but it wasn't until a recent life-changing move, career change, and divorce—all within two months—that I felt the need. My cats, each with me for about 10 years, have been my lifeline. My cousin recommended Pettable after experiencing success with them for her cat. I appreciated how everything about Petatble seemed reliable based on reviews, so I signed up. The clinical therapist assigned to me was helpful, and it's been comforting to have my cats officially recognized as more than just pets; they’re essential support for me.

I have used Pettable in the past, but for my then-upcoming renewal, I needed to receive a new letter (in particular because my apartment had gone under new management, and they needed a new letter for our lease renewal as well). I purchased the renewal package, but there were no available appointments because my previous therapist was no longer available. I contacted support, and Mercedes very comfortably transferred me to a different therapist, Wendy **. We were able to schedule a new appointment within the week and I received my ESA letter that same day. I'm happy with the outcome and relieved that I didn't have to go through much more than just informing customer service of my situation.

Very easy and quick. Had a nice call with the provider Kay. Came faster than expected and had no issues at all. Would recommend to all of my friends with animals. Ended up saving me money in the long run rather than paying the non refundable pet fee at my apartment and not having to pay pet rent.

Why choose an ESA in Oregon?

Oregon law supports the use of Emotional Support Animals for individuals with mental or emotional disablities. With a valid ESA letter you can.

  • Live in housing with “no pets” policies without additional fees.
  • Have your ESA recognized as part of your mental health treatment.
  • Benefit from protections under the Fair Housing Act.

How to Get an ESA Letter in Oregon Online

Determining your eligibility for an emotional support animal (ESA) typically involves consulting with a licensed mental health professional (LMHP) in your state. At Pettable, we streamline this process by providing online consultations with our experienced clinicians, allowing you to assess your eligibility from the comfort of your own home.

Our online platform offers convenience and accessibility, eliminating the need for in-person visits to mental health professionals. Through Pettable, you can connect with a licensed clinician who will evaluate your circumstances to determine if you qualify for an ESA in Oregon.

Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Laws in Oregon

Federal laws governing the use of emotional support animals extend to Oregon, ensuring individuals with disabilities have access to necessary accommodations.

Some of Oregon's specific regulations covering housing, travel, employment, and public access for ESAs include:

  • Housing Rights: Under the federal Fair Housing Act (FHA), housing providers in Oregon must make reasonable accommodations for emotional support animals and service animals. This means they cannot deny accommodation or charge extra fees for ESAs, even if they have a "no pets" policy. Breed or weight restrictions are also prohibited unless the animal poses a direct threat or causes significant property damage.
  • Fair Housing & Employment Acts: While service dogs are federally required to be admitted virtually anywhere, emotional support animals do not have the same protections. Oregon's Fair Housing & Employment Acts offer additional safeguards against discrimination based on disability, potentially extending to ESA owners in certain situations. Employers are not obligated to allow ESAs in the workplace but may consider accommodations if provided with a valid Oregon ESA letter and a demonstration of need.
  • Travel Accommodations: ESAs may face limitations in travel accommodations under the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA). Airlines have discretion regarding the accommodation of ESAs in the cabin, and recent changes to ACAA regulations may impact ESA travel policies. ESA owners should inquire about airline policies in advance and provide proper documentation when traveling with their animals.
  • Public Access: While ESAs do not have the same public access rights as service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Oregon state law may provide additional protections in certain situations. ESA owners should be aware of establishment policies regarding animals and carry their ESA letter when accessing public spaces.

Emotional Support Animals in Oregon

Oregon recognizes the challenges that come with having an emotional or mental disability and thus understands that an emotional support animal can be an important component of a person's mental health treatment plan.

Anyone within the state who struggles with mental health may qualify for an emotional support animal. Oregon endorses the use of an ESA and tends to have friendly policies and laws in place to make this possible for its residents.

ESA Registration Oregon Myths and Scams

It's important to debunk the myth surrounding emotional support animal registration in Oregon. Unlike service animals, which may require specific training and certification, there is no official registration process for ESAs.

Here are some key points to consider:

  • Registration Isn't Required: Under both federal and Oregon state law, there is no requirement to register an ESA. The only documentation needed to qualify an animal as an ESA is an ESA letter issued by a licensed mental health professional indicating the need for the animal to alleviate symptoms of a mental health condition.
  • Beware of Scams: Many websites claim to offer ESA registration or certification services, often accompanied by official-looking badges, certificates, or ID cards. However, these documents hold no legal significance and do not provide any additional rights or protections for ESA owners.
  • Focus on Legitimate Documentation: individuals seeking an ESA should focus on obtaining a legitimate ESA letter from a qualified LMHP. This letter serves as official documentation of the need for an ESA and is the only recognized form of certification.
  • Educate Yourself: It's essential to educate yourself about the laws and regulations surrounding ESAs in Oregon. Understanding your rights and responsibilities as an ESA owner can help you avoid falling victim to scams and misinformation.

Who Qualifies for an ESA in Oregon?

If you believe an emotional support animal could benefit you, the first step is to connect with a licensed mental health professional in the state. They will assess your mental health condition to determine if you meet the criteria for an ESA and issue you an ESA letter if deemed appropriate.

Some mental health conditions that may qualify for an ESA in Oregon include:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Panic disorders
  • Phobias

This list is not exhaustive, and eligibility for an ESA may vary based on individual circumstances and the professional judgment of the assessing LMHP.

Benefits of an Emotional Support Animal for Oregon Residents

They Provide A Healthy Daily Routine

Having an emotional support animal helps people establish a healthy routine in their day-to-day lives. Having an ESA promotes an active lifestyle, and taking care of an animal comes with responsibilities that require individuals to set a daily schedule, which is known to provide immense mental and physical health benefits.

They Provide Emotional and Mental Health Benefits

Many people with mental or emotional health struggles find the mere presence of an emotional support animal in their lives to be of immense benefit. ESAs provide companionship, unconditional love, and a fluffy (or scaly!) friend who can uplift your mood and have a positive impact on coping with a mental health disability.

Relief from Costly Pet Housing Fees

An emotional support animal legitimized with an ESA letter from a licensed mental health professional exempts the animal and their owner from any pet fees, pet rent, or pet restrictions imposed by a housing provider or landlord. Having an ESA letter can be a source of financial relief for those renting their home, so long as they legitimately qualify for an ESA.

How to Get a Psychiatric Service Dog in Oregon

Obtaining a psychiatric service dog (PSD) in Oregon involves several steps to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Unlike emotional support animals, psychiatric service dogs undergo specialized training to perform tasks that mitigate the effects of a mental health disability. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to get a psychiatric service dog in Oregon:

  • Establish Disability-Relate Need for a PSD: Begin by consulting with a licensed mental health professional in Oregon. This professional will assess your mental health condition and determine whether a psychiatric service dog is appropriate for your needs.
  • Training and Acquisition: Once eligibility is established, the next step is to obtain a trained psychiatric service dog. Work with reputable organizations or trainers specializing in training service dogs for individuals with psychiatric disabilities. These dogs undergo extensive training to perform specific tasks tailored to your needs.
  • ADA Compliance: Ensure that your psychiatric service dog meets the requirements set forth by the ADA. This includes being trained to perform tasks directly related to your disability and maintaining proper behavior in public settings.
  • Public Access Training: Both you and your psychiatric service dog should undergo public access training to ensure you can navigate various environments together safely and confidently. This training focuses on obedience, behavior in public spaces, and adherence to ADA regulations.
  • Know Your Rights: Familiarize yourself with your rights as a service dog handler under the ADA. This includes the right to be accompanied by your psychiatric service dog in all public places where individuals are normally allowed to go, including restaurants, stores, and public transportation.

At Pettable we offer an online psychiatric service dog training program that enables you to train a PSD on your own. If you have a dog, or are seeking one out, that you wish to make a psychiatric service dog, consider our training offering. It's an extremely cost-effective method for getting your service dog.
